Mine Surveyor – Tropicana Gold Mine

We are now seeking a Mine Surveyor on a permanent basis to join our Underground Mining team based at the Tropicana Gold Mine.

Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Independence Group NL (30%), Tropicana produces approximately 480,000 ounces annually. After an impressive performance as an open pit mine since 2013 Tropicana is has commenced underground operations at Boston Shaker.  A rare opportunity exists for suitably qualified individuals to play a key role in the establishment and ramp up of this mine.  With an initial underground mine life of over 7 years and a production rate of 1.2mtpa the mine offers the potential to work with a gold mining major on a stable and well managed project only a short flight from either Perth or Kalgoorlie.

Accountable to the Superintendent: Surveying and working with a team of surveyors you will be expected to manage and perform surveying activities to enable the efficient and safe achievement of targeted mine production. This role is FIFO 8/6 from Perth.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

• Be an active safety leader in line with the companies values, policies and procedures
• Performing mainly underground surveying activities necessary for the efficient and safe achievement of targeted mine production of underground development, production, drilling and surface infrastructure projects
• Perform the collection and processing of survey data and production of plans, reports and other forms of spatial information, including systems to ensure integrity and continued availability of data
• Identify opportunities within industry for new technologies, systems and processes that will enhance or streamline current practices or provide new processes and equipment to improve the efficiency and quality of survey services.
• Provide coaching to Graduate Surveyors.
• Maintenance of survey and ancillary equipment.
• Assist with the preparation of statutory mine plans and reporting requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A formal qualification in Surveying is required
• The possession of, or qualification for a grade 1 Mine Surveyors Certificate (WA) is required
• Ideally 2 years of experience working in the operation of underground mines
• Experience with Deswik mining software will be highly regarded
• Previous experience with software packages Global mapper, GeoMos monitoring and Microsoft Office software is preferred
• Previous experience in mine surveying using Leica instruments and Trimble GPS is also required
• Very good practical, planning and prioritising skills combined with the ability to work with minimal supervision to build on the experience gained
• Be innovative with a strong desire to succeed with a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
• Physically capable of performing tasks involving a considerable amount of lifting and manual handling
• Unrestricted “C” class driver’s licence
• Existing an ongoing permanent Australian working rights (mandatory)
