Mining Engineer – Boston Shaker / Tropicana Gold Mine

Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Independence Group NL (30%), Tropicana produces approximately 480,000 ounces annually. After an impressive performance as an open pit mine since 2013 Tropicana is has commenced underground operations at Boston Shaker.  A rare opportunity exists for suitably qualified individuals to play a key role in the establishment and ramp up of this mine.  With an initial underground mine life of over 7 years and a production rate of 1.2mtpa the mine offers the potential to work with a gold mining major on a stable and well managed project only a short flight from either Perth or Kalgoorlie.

We are now seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join our Underground Mining team.  Accountable to the Alternate UG Manager, this newly created role is offered on a FIFO 8/6 roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

• Be an active safety leader in line with the companies values, policies and procedures
• Identify high level infrastructure requirements for the underground mine and manage the implementation of required infrastructure
• Manage all planned service and project work required for the underground mine
• Manage all ancillary underground contractors
• Identify and implement improvement opportunities for the underground operation
• Management and control of the underground mine ventilation system

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A degree in Mining Engineering
• Advanced Microsoft Office software skills
• Experience with mine planning software (Deswik)
• Experience in VentSim software is highly desirable
• Be an excellent communicator, have the ability to drive engagement with a wide range of different work groups and be confident with management of change processes
• Have a good understanding of underground mine schedules and the relationships between different functions within mine schedules
• Have a good understanding of ventilation, pumping and electrical reticulation
• Demonstrated capacity to make sound and timely decisions, by quickly assembling the facts to develop action priorities
• Practical underground mining experience
• Good communication skills
• Existing and ongoing Permanent work rights in Australia (Mandatory)
