AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AGA) is the world’s fourth largest gold producer with operations and projects on four continents. This globally diverse, world-class portfolio is supported by focused exploration in the established and new gold producing regions of the world.  In Australia the company operates the Sunrise Dam (100%) and Tropicana (AGA 70% and manager, Regis Resources 30%) gold mines, which jointly produce approximately 600,000oz per annum. We are now seeking an experienced Community Relations Advisor to join our Community and Land Access team in the Australian Region.

Accountable to Manager: Community, this role is responsible for supporting AGA’s operations to engage with local communities throughout the life cycle of the operations to create shared value and a positive and enduring legacy in support of AGA values.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Provide input into strategies, plans and procedures relating to community and stakeholder engagement including those relating to Indigenous people, and corporate social investment. 
  • Provide advice on community and land access related issues, recognising the need to manage reputation and deal with community perceptions of the impact of mining and exploration.
  • Provide input into development of short and long-term plans to implement AGAA’s community and land access strategies.
  • Contribute to the development, execution and review of relevant AGAA strategies and procedures.
  • Support and maintain strong collaborative stakeholder relationships with colleagues, business partners, regulators, government and other stakeholders to proactively identify and avert risks, and to achieve business and community objectives.

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in community development and land access/heritage.  
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strong community relationships particularly with Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing new relationships with local landowners both freehold/leasehold and Indigenous interests.
  • Experience and local knowledge of stakeholders in the WA Goldfields and Northern Goldfields, an advantage
  • Ability to engage and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and agreement
  • Strong situational awareness and judgement.
  • A National Police Clearance
  • Permanent work rights in Australia
