Located in the Laverton region, AngloGold Ashanti Australia’s Sunrise Dam is one of Western Australia’s premier gold operations. In late 2020 a new satellite open pit was approved (Golden Delicious) which will supplement the large-scale underground operation that employs more than 650 people and produces approximately 260,000 ounces of gold per annum. Ongoing investment in underground and regional exploration at Sunrise Dam has extended the mine life to 2031, with the opportunity for further extensions. Operating on an attractive 8/6 (or variant thereof) fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) roster, Sunrise Dam boasts excellent accommodation and facilities.

We are now seeking a Metallurgical Technician to join our Processing team on a permanent basis at our Sunrise Dam Gold Mine, working on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth.

Accountable to the Laboratory Supervisor, this role is responsible for assisting in the areas of Metallurgy, Laboratory, and the Processing Plant.

The main tasks of the role include:     

  • Perform Hydrometallurgical and Mineral Processing sampling duties and test work procedures such as flotation, comminution, gold testwork, sizing, filtration, etc.;
  • Set up and conduct routine and non-routine testwork programs under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisors and Metallurgists;
  • Monitoring and accurately recording data. Obtaining, preparing and submitting samples for assay;
  • Wet chemistry (aqua regia);
  • Handling and preparation of ore samples (inventorying, crushing, blending and pulverising);
  • Grinding, size analysis, filtering, drying and sample submissions;
  • Other skilled physical and chemical testing such as leaching and flotation;
  • Chemical handling and safe laboratory practices with the ability to adhere to AGAA policies;
  • Prepares working stock, calibration and reagent solutions as directed;
  • Performs regular routine maintenance on existing analytical instruments;
  • Conducts and records daily instrument performance checks in accordance with AGAA standard operating procedures;
  • Assisting with processing plant operations, where required.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Minimum Diploma in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent, however, degree-qualified candidates are encouraged to apply;
  • Previous experience in a site-based or commercial laboratory;
  • Strong written, computing and reporting skills;
  • Numeracy and Data analysis skills;
  • Great attention to detail, enthusiasm to learn and be highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems as they arise;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Flexibility and initiative;
  • A current WA drivers licence;
  • Existing and ongoing valid Permanent working rights in Australia;
  • A national police clearance.
