Northern Star Resources have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mining Engineer to join the team at our world-class Kalgoorlie Operations, on an 8:6 residential roster. 

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

  • Monitor daily the performance of development and production activities and bring attention to any apparent trends which may compromise the weekly and/or three-month schedule;
  • Give directions and information regarding the drilling and blasting schedule and plans to Shift Supervisors and Foreman;
  • Ensure accurate and achievable plans for drilling and blasting activities are completed in a timely fashion to achieve target schedules;
  • Monitor production activities within the mine to identify and improve designs and productivities;
  • Undertake stope performance assessments for each stope and back analyse to ensure continuous improvement in drilling and blasting plans, designs and controls;
  • Complete stope designs to maximise economic extraction of geological stope shapes with available equipment and manpower resources;
  • Complete summarised stope notes and stope reconciliations no later than 1 month, upon practical completion of stoping;
  • Produce accurate and clear mine instructions;
  • Ensure issued instructions are clear, correct and understandable to Operators;
  • Undertake improvement projects to optimise mining practices;
  • Assist the Senior Production Engineer in developing weekly plans and schedules;
  • Management of underground contractors for project work where required.

Required skills and experience:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering;
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence (manual);
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in the mining industry;
  • Underground production and planning experience in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine;
  • Experience with mine design software Mine 24D/Datamine;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices;
  • St Johns Senior First Aid certificate (desirable);
  • Awareness of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
