Role Details

Gold Fields – Agnew is currently seeking a Resource Geologist to join their Geology department.

Reporting to the Superintendent: Resource Evaluation, you will be responsible for assisting with generating, maintaining and reviewing the operation’s mineral inventory and Mineral Resource models.

This role will be available on 5 days on and 2 days off roster and is Perth-based with regular visits to the site as a requirement of the role.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the vital behaviours are adhered to at all times;
  • Provide resource modeling skills and develop appropriate resource models for mines and exploration projects;
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on model reconciliation with an ability to interrogate the causes of changes to models and demonstrate the impact on the resulting model;
  • Prepare and complete all reporting requirements with the appropriate level of detail within agreed timeframes;
  • Comply with external audits and industry best practice by ensuring that all prepared models meet the requirements of SEC, SAMREC and SOX standards;
  • Maintain a strong involvement with the QA/QC function in order to ensure the quality of the data supporting the Resource models;
  • Provide assistance, support and training to relevant Mineral Resources personnel in Resource estimation practice according to GFA procedures and guidelines;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the financial implications and impacts of Resource model quality on mining and exploration decisions, by producing high quality, accurate resource models in a timely manner;
  • Audit and review local mine and exploration models as part of the peer-review process and provide appropriate inputs to improve quality of estimation;
  • Identify, analyse and proactively manage business and estimation risks through effective communication and application of Resource estimation procedures, guidelines and peer review;
  • Define and guide, in conjunction with senior resources staff and consultants appropriate sampling and estimation procedures on the mine.

Key factors to your success include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or related discipline with strong mathematical and statistical emphasis;
  • 5 to 10 years as a Mine or Exploration Geologist with experience in Resource and Grade Control estimation in the gold mining and exploration industry (exposure to other commodities and ore body types will be considered advantageous);
  • Proven geological interpretation skills with the ability to apply this to Resource estimation;
  • Experience with Ordinary Kriging and estimation quality optimisation;
  • Experience with recoverable estimation and simulation techniques will be advantageous;
  • Proven training, coaching and mentoring experience;
  • Understanding of QA/QC procedures, drilling and sampling practices and standard gold industry laboratory analytical methods;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Datamine, Leapfrog, geostatistical software such as Supervisor and Isatis and Acquire databases.
