Role Details:

Reporting to the Manager: Metallurgy Production, you will be responsible for the ongoing management, compliance, and governance of the tailings facilities in line with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). The RTFE should understand the TSFs for which they are responsible, the risks, and how those risks are being managed, including any failures, deficiencies, or opportunities for improvement. In addition, the RTFE will be responsible for forming relationships with key TSF stakeholders and external partners and feel comfortable reporting to company executives.

In the first twelve months of the role, you will receive mentorship from the current interim RTFE and the Group Head of Tailings. You will be well supported in your journey to becoming responsible for all TSFs in the Australian region.

This is offered on a Monday – Friday (5/2) roster, based in our new Perth corporate office. The Australian region comprises four operations; regular travel to the operations on an as needs/ad-hoc basis is an essential part of the role.

Duties of the role:

  • Be familiar with the content and requirements of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM);
  • Be responsible for the management of the GISTM requirements for all Gold Fields Australia Tailings Storage Facilities;
  • Be responsible for liaising with the Engineer of Record, Designer of Record, construction, operations, planning, regulatory affairs, social performance and environment teams;
  • Be familiar with the design, construction, operation, and performance of tailings storage facilities;
  • Have experience, knowledge, and competencies appropriate to the complexity of the facility and consequence classification;
  • You will have experience undertaking scoping of studies, site investigations, etc., budgets and risk management for tailings facilities;
  • Routinely communicate with the site management team on key dam safety matters;
  • Undertake audits and address any non-conformances.

About You

You will have:

  • You will have a bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or other tertiary qualifications relating to tailings management;
  • You will have between 5 and 10 years of experience as a geotechnical/civil engineer;
  • You will have experience on-site, liaising with interdisciplinary stakeholders;
  • Prior proven experience as an Engineer in a similar role;
  • Professional Engineering designation or over 15 years experience in a Senior Engineering role;
  • Program, project or client management experience;
  • A proactive approach to learning and development, open to collaborating in a team environment;
  • Valid drivers licence.
