AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AGA) is one of the world’s largest gold producers with a number of operations on different continents. Due to a regional expansion of the HSR function we now have 2 exciting new Safety Advisor Roles within the Safety team at each of our sites.

Both roles will be an 8/5 4/4 (or variant thereof) fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) roster to Sunrise Dam or Tropicana Gold Mines, with flights from Perth or Kalgoorlie.  

Accountable to the Senior Safety Advisor, these roles are responsible for providing advice, support and services to the various Site Departments as required in the application of OHS practices.

The main tasks of the roles include:                  

  • Providing a high degree of safety and health support and advice to the operational departments of the site including Mining- Underground, Mining – Open Pit, Processing, Mobile Maintenance, Drill and Blast, Fixed Plant Maintenance and Projects and Infrastructure;
  • Demonstrate safety leadership and improve the safety culture through developing line capability in delivering their safety accountabilities;
  • Continually review, propose and were approved, contribute to the development of improved safety systems and procedures to optimise safety for the life of mine;
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to supervisors, employees and contractors in all areas of safety, behavioural and culture change, and leadership development;
  • Coordinate DMIRS communication via SRS;
  • Monitor action recording and closeout from incidents, investigations, audits, planned inspections, safety meetings and conduct action verification to the required standard;
  • Complete internal OHS audits and participate in OHS internal /external audits;
  • Lead the safety interaction process for site;
  • Assist with the overall implementation of safety systems, strategies and initiatives;
  • Providing facilitation, assistance and guidance in incident investigations, HSE meetings, safety inspections of equipment and work practices on the site;
  • Assist in maintaining the HSE management systems on site;
  • Participate in high-level incidents and accident investigations as required and monitor incident reporting;
  • Ensuring compliance with OHS regulations as well as company policies and procedures;
  • Leading, facilitating and participating in risk management processes for the Mine Site;
  • Assist in drug and alcohol testing.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in safety;
  • Strong organisation and computer literacy;
  • Minimum 5 years experience as an OHS practitioner in the mining industry;
  • Working knowledge of the Mines Safety Inspection Act and Regulations;
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience in HSE management systems such as INCONTROL;
  • Qualification in an incident investigation such as ICAM/Taproot;
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian drivers licence or equivalent;
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude with a strong desire to succeed in the role and a passion for health, safety, environment and community;
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and engagement skills;
  • Experience in document development;
  • Understanding of process safety management;
  • Experience in delivering safety training;
  • Authorised drug collection officer qualification;
  • Internal auditor qualification;
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment qualification;
  • Ability to pass a National Police Check.
