Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Regis Resources Ltd (30%), Tropicana produces approximately 450,000 ounces annually. The Tropicana operation comprises a significant open pit mine with a 6 year life as well as the newly developed the Boston Shaker underground. The Boston Shaker underground has a mine life of 7 years with significant exploration upside being realised with a large brownfields drilling budget to support Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve growth creating an exciting future. Coupled with this, working at Tropicana provides the opportunity to work with a gold mining major on a stable, long life and well managed operation.

We are now seeking an Underground Maintenance Electrician (Fixed Plant) to join our maintenance team. This permanent role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

Accountable to the Supervisor Electrical Maintenance, this role is responsible for the maintenance of the underground infrastructure.


The main tasks of the roles include:

  • Carrying out maintenance tasks in an underground mining area on fixed plant infrastructure as directed by the Underground Electrical Supervisor or Superintendent;
  • Installation and maintaining LV and HV electrical power;
  • Maintaining pumping systems, emergency escape ways, refuge chambers and surface infrastructure at an underground mine;
  • Ensuring team compliance with all company, legislative and statutory regulations in regards to electrical;
  • Working within the maintenance team carrying out maintenance and installation work;
  • Work closely with electrical department personnel;
  • Liaising with maintenance personnel and supervisors on safety, performance and technical issues;
  • Assisting in the execution of daily, weekly, monthly work plans and schedules;
  • Ensuring that all activities are effective through cross-functional liaison and teamwork with relevant departments.


The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent people and communication skills;

  • Be a qualified tradesperson, Electrical;
  • Current WA Electrical Workers License.
  • High Voltage Switching Operations Competency.
  • Minimum 3 years mining industry experience in maintenance and installations in underground hard rock mining and surface infrastructure;
  • Computer literacy and experience with CMMS systems, SAP experience desirable;
  • The ability to work with noise, dust, elevated work areas, confined spaces, extremes of temperature, water and slurry environments;
  • Good level of fitness required and ability to pass a medical;
  • Good written and verbal skills;
  • The ability to work as part of a multi skilled workforce;
  • Be a self-starter with a strong and consistent work ethic;
  • Nationally accredited Working at Heights and Confined Space certification desirable;
  • Commissioning experience desirable;
  • High Risk workers Licenses such as RA,RI,RB,DG,CN,WP,FL desirable;
  • Hold a current driver’s license, WA C Class;
  • Able to obtain a National Police Clearance;
  • Existing and ongoing permanent working rights in Australia (Mandatory);
  • You must be able to provide a COVID-19 Digital Certificate or current Immunisation History Statement showing vaccination against COVID-19 or that an exemption to vaccination has been granted and recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register
