Underground Ventilation Engineer

Northern Star Resources have a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for an Underground Ventilation Engineer to join the Underground Mining team at the Mt Charlotte operations, residentially based in Kalgoorlie.


Mount Charlotte is a historic mine that has been backed with significant investment in recent years, resulting in a long-term exciting future for the growing team of mining specialists leading, operating, and maintaining the mine.


This is a residential position working an 8/6 12-hour day roster, with the unique benefit of being less than a 10-minute drive to any front door in Kalgoorlie.


Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer your main responsibilities will include:


  • Lead, train and manage the ventilation technicians completing the statutory UG ventilation survey’s and monitoring the UG installation of secondary ventilation
  • Complete ventilation design for new mining levels and stope extraction plans, including ventsim modelling for changes to primary ventilation circuits and re-entry calculations
  • Conduct surface and underground primary ventilation fan pressure readings and performance evaluations
  • Generate ventilation work instructions documents for new and existing ventilation installations
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining ventilation directions on mining shift documents and ventilation instructions to operational workforce.
  • The ability to hold the statutory position of Ventilation Officer for the mine
  • Ensure the Ventilation Control Plan is up to date and maintained, with the UG operation implements and manages the documented practices adequately
  • Build relationships with underground mining supervisors and crews and provide ventilation education and execution of ventilation works.



Required skills and experience:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence, or the ability to obtain.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in the mining industry,
  • Underground practical time completed
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience with Ventsim and Deswik is desirable.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
