Senior Mechanical Engineer – Tropicana Gold Mine

After an impressive debut in 2013, the Tropicana gold mine has consistently achieved or beaten performance targets. Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Independence Group NL (30%), this large-scale, modern open pit gold operation has been one of the most significant Australian gold discoveries of the last decade.

Along with continued investment and focus on our open pit mining, Tropicana has also recently commenced underground operations at Boston Shaker.

We are now seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Maintenance team at the Tropicana Gold Mine. This permanent role is based on an 8/6 (or equivalent) FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

• Compliance with all Company safety policies and procedures
• Provide Engineering support to the Tropicana site across a wide variety of operational areas
• Manage implementation of maintenance improvements
• Manage and prioritise the maintenance projects list
• Provide assistance with ongoing operational excellence initiatives
• Engineering investigations into equipment failures
• Develop scopes of work for consultants and contractors
• Propose and implement plant modifications to improve reliability, availability and operating cost reduction over the life of the plant
• Engagement with contractors and engineering consultants
• Develop and maintain standards and specifications for the Tropicana Gold Mine

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3 to 5 years professional engineering experience, preferably site based and in the gold mining industry
• Capability in the design of plant modifications and improvements in accordance with the relevant standards
• The ability to manage projects with demanding timelines and limited resources
• An excellent understanding of operating gold plants and applicable statutory regulations
• An understanding of the requirements for brownfields plant modifications in a shutdown environment
• Experience with SAP will be highly regarded
• Demonstrated effective written/oral communication skills
• Ability to work within a group/team environment
• Hold an Australian C Class (manual) driver’s licence
• A National Police Clearance
• Existing and ongoing Australian working rights (Mandatory requirement)
