Geotechnical Engineer

 

Northern Star Resources are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at KCGM on a residential basis.

As the Geotechnical Engineer in KCGM, you will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to the mining operations with regards to mine planning, design and geotechnical support to optimise mine operations.
 

Based at the iconic Super Pit, this residential role is on an 8/6 roster working 11-hour days.

KCGM has its own geotechnical challenges, as the Geotechnical Engineer within the projects team you will be responsible for:

 

Key accountabilities:

  • To provide geotechnical support to the Open Pit or Underground Mining Areas to allow effective and safe mining activities to occur and support the long terms needs of the life of mine (LOM) plan.
  • Implement the slope monitoring programs to supply timely information and advice to all working teams in the mine areas on slope movement.
  • Review mine geotechnical performance on a daily basis using monitoring systems and inspections and communicate this to mine production personnel.
  • Ensure mine development is in accordance with geotechnical standards (GCMP).
  • Maintain a geotechnical database for the mine, to assist in maintaining historical data for subsequent monitoring and trend analysis.
  • Conduct mapping to establish rock mass and structural condition of domains to ensure design of correct ground support.
  • Design, plan and implement ground investigation programs.
  • Conduct geotechnical project work as required to ensure continuous improvement with respect to Geotechnical activities.
  • Assist in developing the life of mine geotechnical designs for the open pit or underground operation, to contribute to long term mine plans.
  • Comply with all reasonable and lawful instructions that are consistent with your contract of Employment.

 

Requirements:

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • A minimum 5 years’ experience including 2 years’ relevant Mining experience in a Geotechnical focused role.
  • Knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to use specialised Geotechnical hardware and software, including Map3D, the RocScience suite, as well as specialised seismic software packages.
  • Proficient in the use of Datamine software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
