Northern Star Resources has an exciting opportunity to join the site leadership team at Carosue Dam operations looking to appoint a Maintenance Superintendent.

 

The Maintenance Superintendent reports to the Processing Manager, with the primary function of the role to lead the maintenance team in safely and efficiently executing maintenance strategies.  A strong focus to continually improve plant availability and ensure predictable performance between planned shutdowns is essential.

 

Success in this role will be a high performing team who proactively engage in safety processes and ensure critical risk controls are in place to make work task safe. Actively monitor and promote the value of maintenance systems to facilitate continuous improvement, high quality work and the management of costs in line with business goals. The team will develop a high level of skill, integrity and ownership developed through your active coaching, engagement and standard setting behaviour.

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the development of the Department Budget as directed by the Manager.
  • Monitor section costs and provide feedback to the Manager on any variances of note.
  • Identify opportunities for improved cost management and implement improvements.
  • Monitor and coach team leaders on the key metric drivers to identify processing maintenance improvement opportunities, within execution standards, reliability engineering processes, defect identification/reporting and elimination.
  • Develop and maintain succession plans for key positions and identify opportunities to upskill.
  • Monitor training requirements to ensure skills required to maintain processing plant effectively matching system and work management requirements.
  • Monitor Work Management Reports to identify improvement opportunities, provide direction and support in relation to Work Management and Pronto improvements.
  • Review effectiveness of the life of asset strategy on an as needed basis. Provide recommendations to stakeholders as required to agree and then implement changes/improvements. Update budget and resource requirements to support the updated strategy.
  • Monitor and communicate to respective warehouse nominee on supply chain issues which negatively impact on maintenance effectiveness in relation to components and consumables availability and quality.
  • Monitor and communicate with respective planning, reliability and engineering department nominees on plant or process improvement or upgrades ensuring they consider ongoing maintenance effectiveness requirements.
  • Support the Shutdown Management process to enable the effectiveness of interfaces, processes undertaken to ensure planned shutdowns are brought in on time and on budget with no injuries.
  • Improve contractor management, with the goal of reducing costs and improving efficiencies of execution requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations as required and ensure any corrective actions required focus on higher order controls to prevent reoccurrence.

Required skills and experience: 

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence
  • Minimum prior experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in the mining industry
  • Post Trade Engineering Qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with honesty, integrity and respect
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and foster team building
  • Demonstrated ability to share experience and expertise with the team
  • Maintain high levels of team morale and work ethic; Hold performance standards high in all areas
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, Pronto Xi
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all mechanical tasks
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved Asset Management procedures and practices
  • Sound knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations
