The role works cohesively as an integral member of the Projects and Technical Services team. The role requires maintaining active interactions with key stakeholders such as Geology, Environment, Operations and Corporate personnel to ensure the practicality of project studies and LOM planning deliverables.
About Norton Gold Fields
Norton Gold Fields is one of Australia’s largest domestic gold producers, with a recent annual production of up to 200,000 ounces. The Company has a mining and processing complex in Western Australia’s world-class Kalgoorlie goldfield region, including a highly prospective tenement package of more than 1,000km² surrounding the 3.8Mtpa Paddington Mill.
Currently, Norton Gold Fields is progressing its expansion of two underground mine sites namely Tuart and Enterprise and various open pit projects such as Federal, Jakarta, Golden Funnel, Rose Dam South and Rose Dam North this year.

Duties:

  • Complete Project studies that are assigned, ensuring quality delivery within agreed timeframes;
  • Mine optimisation and identifying business improvement opportunities, including future operations and processes;
  • Produce practical mine designs for long term projects including the type of infrastructure and development required;
  • Review applications of different mining methods and assess the impact of the economic viability of the project (provide recommendations where required);
  • Complete LOM schedules (3 – 10 years), assessing various pit sequencing and staging options to identify and provide options with the best outcomes;
  • Update and report Open Pit Ore Reserves at least once a year;
  • Review, update and maintain cost models that are used for project economic evaluations;
  • Assist with preparation of budgets when required;
  • Lead by example in the application of Norton Gold Fields (NGF) values in day to day interaction with NGF personnel and contractors;
  • Maintain a strong safety culture by ensuring that all visitors to the team are appropriately inducted and comply with site standards and procedures;
  • Correct and/or report safety hazards when observed;
  • Any other duties as required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant Bachelor Degree qualifications in Mining Engineering;
  • Minimum of 5yrs OP mining Technical and Operational experience;
  • Experienced in OP mining feasibility study;
  • Quarry Manager or First Class Managers Certificate (desirable);
  • Current unencumbered C/HR Western Australian drivers licence;
  • Senior First Aid (desirable);
  • Open Pit mining development and production operations;
  • Understanding of mine planning, mining engineering and geology;
  • Mining development and production technology;
  • Open Pit mining plant and equipment operation and maintenance;
  • Mining Safety and Inspection Act 1994 (WA) and, Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 (WA);
  • Development and production performance monitoring and reporting;
  • Mining development and production practices implementation and improvement;
  • Risk assessment and control;
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively to all stakeholders, including mining personnel and technical personnel (geology, safety, environment and external parties);
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively to Management;
  • Must always display positive support for company policies, procedures and instruction;
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships required to achieve role purpose;
  • Able to read and write mining proposals and technical reports;
  • High-level competence in the use of OP design and scheduling software such as Surpac, Whittle and Minesched;
  • Competent with demonstrated skills in spreadsheet and presentation applications, word processing and database applications.
