Planning Engineer

 

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Planning Engineer to join our high performing Technical Services team at our Mount Charlotte Operations.

 

This opportunity is offered on 5:2, 4:3 10-hour roster, residentially based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Relocation packages and assistance will be considered for the right candidate.

 

Reporting to the Senior Planning Engineer, the primary role is for the delivery of mine plans in a safe and efficient manner, utilising industry best practice. This is an integral role in a mine known for its dynamic nature and industry leading physicals. The successful candidate will contribute greatly to the delivery of technical designs in a historic 60-year-old mining complex spanning multiple orebodies.

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Produce accurate and clear mine instructions (lateral and vertical mine development, stope notes) by bringing conceptual designs to execution-ready plans for approval by Senior Planning Engineer.
  • Ensure issued instructions are clear, correct and understandable to Operations.
  • Work closely with the geology team to ensure designs are in line with available geological information.
  • Undertake evaluation of prospective remnant areas.
  • Assisting management of underground contractors for project work where required.
  • Work closely with survey and operations to prioritise and execute development activities.
  • Contribute to the completion of various other Mine Planning Department functions, such budgets/forecasts, life-of-mine plans, reserves, ventilation & capital projects.
  • Participate in safety & daily compliance meetings.

 

Required skills and experience: 

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence (Manual).
  • Experience with a mine design software – preferably Deswik CAD and IS.
  • Underground production and planning experience in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • St Johns Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
  • Awareness of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulation 2022.
  • Underground time completed.
