Role Details:

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Long Term Mine Planning you will facilitate and provide expert technical, studies and mine planning direction for current and future St Ives Underground Operations, as well as secure the success of the mine by competently developing, communicating, and distributing appropriate designs and scheduling plans that facilitate the optimal extraction of St Ives’s gold reserves. Develop the underground and associated infrastructure plans for St Ives to ensure that infrastructure investment supports the mine's strategic future. In conjunction with the capital projects team bring to the site team robust, well-engineered economic solutions in advance of the critical path to ensure on-time and on-cost infrastructure projects. Rations on technical and economic drivers, capital investments, risks and uncertainties, and value generation.

      This Perth-based role is offered on a 9-day fortnight roster at our Perth corporate office permanently, regular site visits will be required.

About the role:

  • Contribute to the design and scheduling process for the Life of Mine and Business Plan using Deswik Suite of software, according to the Gold Fields standards and procedures.

  • Ensure a high-quality standard approach for Capital UG Infrastructure planning and estimates to enable communication with the right level of detail between long-term and medium-term planning.

  • Review and collaborate to ensure the infrastructure strategy is integrated into the medium-term schedule and is aligned with the expectations, understanding and requirements of the mining requirements.

  • Support and develop business improvement and asset optimization initiatives for St Ives through mine planning, costing and financial modelling process. Evaluate decarbonization options and strategy for future capital projects.

  • Lead and/or deliver technical and engineering work on Concept, PFS, and FS technical studies.

  • Secure the confidence of appropriate personnel to make sound business decisions by diligently applying knowledge, skills, and abilities in the provision of expert mining engineering advice, preparation of AFEs and contributing to project work as directed.

  • Create consistent and optimal production, development and UG infrastructure designs that account for the most up-to-date economic and geological information.

  • Build strategic working alliances, promoting the capability of the role to facilitate understanding and the better accomplishment of goals through establishing, improving, and maintaining productive and constructive interpersonal relationships both internally with strategic planning, technical services personnel, and production personnel and externally with business partners and consultants.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related discipline

  • Proven, extensive Infrastructure Planning/engineering experience with exposure to Underground infrastructure planning and scheduling – preferably in gold mining.

  • Understanding of mining and environmental approvals

  • Exposure to Infrastructure planning and scheduling process and associated economics for project valuations.

  • Exposure to Contractor Mining environments

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office and mining software such as Deswik CAD and Sched.
