Senior Safety & Risk Advisor

 

Northern Star has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Safety and Risk Advisor to join our team at the KCGM.

The Senior Safety and Risk Advisor reports to the Health and Safety Superintendent, and the primary role is to maintain the Mine Health and Safety Management Plan focusing on risk management awareness and compliance.

The position, based in Kalgoorlie, follows a family-friendly 8:6 roster working 11-hour days, ensuring you can be home every night!

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Ensure you act in accordance with the site Mine Health and Safety Management Plan requirements and those of the Company.
  • Review site risk management documentation incorporating legislative requirements, Company objectives, standards, policies and the capture of risk mitigation control measures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Company Critical Risk Management Program at KCGM including linkages to the site risk register. Facilitate the site risk register ownership and updates.
  • Promote the Critical Risk Management Program across site including training, system access, system reporting and trends.
  • Reporting and analysis of all critical risk data to support site compliance and KPI’s.
  • Develop and implement an appropriate internal audit and review process for Critical Risks including with Contract Partners.
  • Monitor quality of site Critical Risk Management activities including the scheduling of Manager Verifications and Supervisor coaching and critical control verification completion.
  • Support the site critical risk champions with review of and compliance to applicable Critical Risk Standards across the site including supporting communication and networking opportunities.
  • Review the site Principal Mining Hazard Management Plans and report on compliance to each applicable Principal Mining Hazards. 
  • Champion risk reviews i.e. Bow Ties, TBRA’s, OMATS / Commissioning Reports.
  • Facilitate ChemAlert updates.
  • Conduct training including investigation, JHA and HazardID as required.
  • Complete document control reviews and updates as required.

 

Requirements:

Qualifications Required

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.

Desired Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum of 3 years in a senior safety advisor or similar role.
  • Experience running workshops and facilitating critical risk management process.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in the mining industry.
  • Detailed working knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
  • Familiarity with INX database modules such as InControl.
  • Good skills in spreadsheet and presentation applications, word processing and database applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Able to read and write English at an Australian Upper Secondary School standard.
