AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AGA) is the world’s third largest gold producer with 14 operations in nine countries. We are now seeking a Chief Engineer to provide engineering technical support and leadership to the Australian operations and projects team.

Accountable to the VP Engineering International Operations, the Chief Engineer forms an integral part of the International Operations engineering technical team. Based in our modern corporate CBD office in Perth (with frequent travel to site), this senior level role serves as the first point of contact for engineering and maintenance support in the Australia Region.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering technical support and leadership to the operations and other departments in the region.
  • Develop appropriate engineering strategies to de-risk the operations and meet overall business objectives.
  • Establish processes and systems to optimize the performance and reliability of plant and infrastructure.
  • Develop standards, procedures and specifications and roll out best practices across the organization.
  • Act as the single point of contact to coordinate and provide specialist engineering support to the operations.
  • Coordinate the annual Stay-in-Business capital planning process and perform reviews to ensure projects are technically sound from a design, maintainability and operability perspective.
  • Actively participate in the integrated planning process and review maintenance and engineering deliverables.
  • Provide assurance and governance relating to the engineering and maintenance discipline.
  • Develop continuous improvement projects in conjunction with the site Engineering/Maintenance Managers to optimise overall equipment effectiveness and reduce unit costs.
  • Mentor, assist and guide engineering and maintenance personnel to execute their duties according to discipline specific objectives, standards and operating procedures.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least 15 years relevant experience in the discipline, preferably from the gold or base metals mining sectors.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with professional, high performing individuals and teams.
  • The ability to organise work, manage multiple competing priorities and exercise sound independent judgement.
  • The capacity to make sound tactical decisions – assemble and interpret data to successfully action priorities.
  • A performance driven, energetic approach to delivering work with a preparedness to take a well-reasoned stance on matters of importance.
  • A track record of finding practical and innovative solutions in maintenance/asset management, with strong focus on fixed plant and infrastructure.
  • A comprehensive understanding of mining equipment and fixed plant maintenance practices including work management, defect elimination, tactic development and asset integrity.
  • Advanced project management competencies and engineering design experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering Discipline (Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Post-graduate qualifications would be highly regarded.
  • Preferably a registered Professional with Engineers Australia.
  • Existing and ongoing Permanent Australian working rights (Mandatory).
