Saracen Mineral Holdings (ASX:SAR) is an ASX listed gold producer with its core assets located in world class gold provinces in Western Australia. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Carosue Dam Operations situated 120kms north east of Kalgoorlie, WA. Carosue Dam currently has three underground mines in production and is at an exciting stage of its underground mine development with ongoing drilling and technical studies underpinning a long life, low cost operation employing bulk mining methods with engineered backfill.   While building on the foundation of its three existing underground mines Carosue Dam is also recommencing Open Pit Operations. This is an exciting time to be part of the next growth phase of Saracen.

This role represents a rare opportunity to provide front end technical input into a large, long life operation, with a vast growth horizon.

Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing geotechnical advice to mining operations to ensure geotechnical risks are effectively identified, managed and controlled.
  • Providing geotechnical input into short and long term production planning and scheduling processes.
  • Geotechnical assessments of the LOM design, development designs and level extraction plans.
  • Building and maintaining geotechnical systems of work, procedures and management plans to establish the geotechnical team.
  • Data analysis, geotechnical design and continuous improvement activities.
  • Undertaking geotechnical project tasks required for business improvement and cost control.
  • Providing guidance to the engineering team responsible for the day to day operation, including underground assessments when required.

You will be expected to manage all aspects the geotechnical aspects of the operation over within the quarterly to budget year timeframe. It is expected you will be able to identify and implement technical improvements as well as improve systems of work to establish efficient work processes to support the geotechnical team function.

To be successful in this role you will require the following skills and experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering/ Rock Mechanics, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Structural Geology.  A
  • Masters Degree will be highly regarded.
  • Approximately 5-10 years of geotechnical engineering experience including a minimum of 3 years at an underground operation.
  • Demonstrated track record of involvement and achievement in successful projects, working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong understanding of statutory requirements and geotechnical considerations for underground and open pit mining.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Skilled in mentoring and developing individuals in a high performing team.
  • Proficient in mining and geotechnical software such as Deswik, RocScience, IMS and numerical modelling software.
  • Backfill and open pit experience will be well regarded.
