We currently have an exciting opportunity within our Mining Team at Leonora in Western Australia, for a Geotechnical Engineer. In this role you will provide timely and fit-for-purpose geotechnical advice to support the site to meet operational outputs whilst sharpening your overall geotechnical skill set. We will provide you with an opportunity to work with skilled and dedicated industry professionals and be set up for success. This is opportunity is offered on a balanced 8 days on / 6 days off roster. This role may be Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) from Perth, Drive-in, Drive-out (DIDO) from Kalgoorlie or residential in Leonora.

Our Opportunity

  • Seismicity management including the operation and analysis of data from the Gwalia seismic system;
  • Implementation of a new ground support system utilising industry leading dynamic self-drilling anchor support;
  • Managing the design and installation of seismic sensors;
  • Stress modelling for stopes and development using Map3D;
  • Geotechnical hazard identification and analysis including the preparation, implementation and tracking of ground support systems;
  • Communicating geotechnical information and requirements in a manner fit for the respective audience;
  • Monitoring and management of historical open pit operations, waste dumps and an operating tailings facility;
  • Reporting on geotechnical performance and operational indicators; and
  • Opportunities to participate in feasibility studies relating to geotechnical, mining and economic viability of deposits.

About You

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values;
  • Tertiary level qualifications preferably in Geo Technical Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering or equivalent degree;
  • Previous experience working within an underground mining or tunnelling environment;
  • A team mindset, strong written communication and report writing skills; and
  • Current unencumbered Australian C Class Drivers Licence.
