About the opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead one of Australia’s premier gold operations through its next phase of performance, optimisation and growth.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager, Cowal Operations is accountable for the safe, sustainable and profitable leadership of the operation. You will set the strategic direction of the site, drive operational excellence and lead a diverse team across mining, processing, planning, projects, commercial, sustainability and people. You will play a critical role maximising the long-term value of the asset while strengthening capability, fostering innovation and maintaining Cowal’s social licence to operate.

Key responsibilities include:

• Deliver industry leading safety, sustainable and profitable operational performance across the Cowal operation.
• Lead life-of-mine planning and strategic initiatives that maximise asset value and growth opportunities.
• Strengthen relationships with government, regulatory, community and industry stakeholders.
• Drive a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
• Provide strategic advice and operational insights to the COO and Executive Leadership Team.

Does this sound like you?

You are an accomplished mining leader with the breadth, commercial acumen and strategic perspective to lead a complex operation through changing market and operating conditions. You have a track record of building high-performing leadership teams, making confident decisions and creating clarity across competing priorities while maintaining an uncompromising focus on safety and performance.

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary mining operations through complex operational and market cycles.
• Developing and executing long-term strategies that deliver sustainable performance and value creation.
• Leading significant organisational, operational and cultural transformation.
• Managing complex stakeholder relationships across corporate, regulatory, community and industry environments.

Qualifications, skills, and competencies

• Tertiary qualification in Mine Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy or a related discipline
• Extensive senior leadership experience within the mining industry across multiple assets or operations
• Strong commercial, financial planning and operational leadership capability
• Demonstrated strategic thinking, sound judgement and highly developed stakeholder skills
