The Opportunity:

You’ll be responsible for managing and coordinating all facets of the underground operations to meet all safety, development and cost targets. You will also ensure that all mining and planning activities support and are driven by the short, medium and long-term needs of the mine and fully aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of the business unit (St Ives Gold Mine), and Gold Fields as a whole.

 

Reporting to the Underground Mine Manager, this role is offered on an 8 day on 6 days off roster, Wednesday-Wednesday and is Fly in Fly out from Perth or residential from Kalgoorlie, WA.

 

Up to six months’ free, company-provided accommodation may be available for eligible candidates from under-represented groups (for example, women in mining and Indigenous Australians) relocating to Kambalda for permanent roles.

 

Accommodation includes basic furnishings and utilities and is subject to availability and housing policy, with support available to assist with transitioning to a lease after the initial six-month period. Eligibility and final terms will be discussed during the recruitment process.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure all statutory requirements are met per the WA Work Health and Safety Act (2020) & respective Regulations (2022)
  • Ensure all reporting and actions in relation to safety and environmental incidents is completed within appropriate deadlines
  • Manage and oversee the development activities of the mine, taking into consideration the long-term requirements of the mine as well as responding to the daily requirements, to achieve the budget and agreed objectives
  • Monitor development and mining projects progress against monthly targets
  • Optimise and work on continuous improvement projects to increase the decline development advance rate
  • Oversee the mine planning, projects, ventilation, survey and geotechnical requirements of the mine
  • Support the preparation of schedules of all mining activities to create accurate forecasts and budgets to achieve the mine budget
  • Oversee and provide input to mine technical studies covering the Life of Mine
  • Develop continuous improvement targets and drive and measure achievement of these targets
  • Ensure that the mine schedules are matched to the production requirements, operational conditions, and resources

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Recognised Tertiary Degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Mining)
  • Holding a WorkSafe Western Australia, Statutory Certificate as First Class Mine Manager (Non-coal Mines) Certificate of Competency and Western Australian manual C-Class drivers’ licence is essential.
  • Extensive experience in an underground mining environment
  • Previous experience in a operational leadership (site based) role is vital
  • Experience in using your WA First Class Mine Manager (Non-coal Mines) certification desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in providing leadership, risk management, managing training/development, career progression and performance management of personnel
  • Displayed proficiency with mining software (Deswik, Ventsim)
  • Strong technical background with experience in underground mine planning, ventilation, geotechnical, capital justifications, and budgeting.
  • A growth mindset, with strong communication, responsibility, and relationship-building skills.
