Underground Maintenance Technician – Electrician

(Multiple roles at newly opened Boston Shaker / Tropicana Gold Mine)

After an impressive debut in 2013, the Tropicana gold mine has consistently achieved or beaten performance targets. Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Independence Group NL (30%), this large-scale, modern open pit gold operation represents one of Australia’s most significant gold discoveries and produces approximately 480,00 ounces per annum.

Tropicana has recently commenced underground operations at Boston Shaker.  With an initial underground mine life of over 7 years and a production rate of 1.2mtpa the mine offers the potential to work with a gold mining major on a stable and well managed project only a short flight from either Perth or Kalgoorlie.

We are now seeking two Underground Maintenance Electricians (Fixed Plant) to join our maintenance team. These newly created permanent roles are based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

Accountable to the Underground Maintenance Electrical Supervisor, this role is responsible for the maintenance of the underground infrastructure.

The main tasks of the roles include:

• Carrying out maintenance tasks in an underground mining area on fixed plant infrastructure as directed by the Underground Electrical Supervisor or Superintendent;
• Installation and maintaining LV and HV electrical power;
• Maintaining pumping systems, emergency escape ways, refuge chambers and surface infrastructure at an underground mine;
• Ensuring team compliance with all company, legislative and statutory regulations in regards to electrical;
• Working within the maintenance team carrying out maintenance and installation work;
• Work closely with electrical department personnel;
• Liaising with maintenance personnel and supervisors on safety, performance and technical issues;
• Assisting in the execution of daily, weekly, monthly work plans and schedules;
• Ensuring that all activities are effective through cross-functional liaison and teamwork with relevant departments.

• Be a qualified tradesperson, Electrical;
• Current WA Electrical Workers License.
• High Voltage Switching Operations Competency.
• Minimum 3 years mining industry experience in maintenance and installations in underground hard rock mining and surface infrastructure;
• Computer literacy and  experience with CMMS systems, SAP experience desirable;
• The ability to work with noise, dust, elevated work areas, confined spaces, extremes of temperature, water and slurry environments;
• Good level of fitness required and ability to pass a medical;
• Good written and verbal skills;
• The ability to work as part of a multi skilled workforce;
• Be a self-starter with a strong and consistent work ethic;
• Nationally accredited Working at Heights and Confined Space certification desirable;
• Commissioning experience desirable;
• High Risk workers Licenses such as RA,RI,RB,DG,CN,WP,FL desirable;
• Hold a current driver’s license, WA C Class;
• Able to obtain a National Police Clearance;
• Existing and ongoing permanent working rights in Australia (Mandatory);
