Gold Road discovered Australia’s newest Tier 1 gold mine, Gruyere, in 2013 and are proud to have reached commercial production, with our Joint Venture partner Gold Fields Australia, in 2019, only 6 years from the discovery of Gruyere. We are now focused on discovering new world class gold deposits in support of our growth ambitions.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Exploration Geologist, the Project Geologist will perform a hands-on exploration geology role, encompassing planning and supervision of exploration activities and reporting results with a focus on adding to the sites Reserve and Resource base through discovery, extension and delineation of high value gold deposits that meet the company’s strategic objectives.

This role is offered on a permanent basis at our Yamarna exploration project, working 12 hours per day on an 8:6 roster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously increase the knowledge of site geology through detailed geological interpretation and data analysis focusing on mineralisation controls on both a local and regional scale;
  • Planning, implementation and efficient management of drilling programs, in a timely and safe manner on budget, in cognisance of Heritage and statutory requirements;
  • Timely and accurate collation of geological data required for internal reporting and external publishing of exploration results and Mineral Resources compliant with JORC 2012 Guidelines;
  • Holistic assessment and subsequent recommendations, in a timely manner, of completed drill programmes;
  • Activities conducted to optimise discovery leading to definition of Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves;
  • Geological modelling and interpretation of projects utilising geological, geochemical and geophysical data;
  • Evaluate exploration datasets to generate, rank and test new and existing targets;
  • Produce high quality geological logging of core and chips;
  • Effective communication and leadership of field staff and contractors;
  • Contributing to the company and statutory reports; and
  • Commitment to working safely and the promotion of safe working practices with colleagues and contractors.

About yourself

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology, preferably with honours or higher;
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in mineral exploration with an emphasis on gold;
  • A good understanding of orogenic gold systems, and relevant early and late stage exploration techniques;
  • Experience working with large datasets and ability to utilise geological, lithogeochemical and geophysical data to conduct geological interpretation and develop working geological models;
  • Relevant understanding of QAQC procedures, drilling and sampling practices and standard gold industry laboratory analytical methods;
  • Proficiency with GIS and 3D modelling software;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Australian Driver’s Licence (manual).
