Northern Star Resources have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Project Mine Geologist to join the Geology team at our world-class Kalgoorlie Operations, on a 5:2 roster.

What’s the role on offer?

As the Project Mine Geologist, you will be responsible for identifying and delineating in-mine mineral resources. You will be required to perform the underground geological activities required to facilitate the safe, efficient and cost-effective extraction and growth of the mineral reserve within the Gold Mine area to meet or exceed Northern Star’s performance requirements within the Geology Department.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Drive ounce addition through identification and evaluation of in mine targets from analysis of historical data, mapping reviews, drilling results and observations in current development.
  • Planning and implementation of in mine drilling programs inclusive of contractor supervision
  • Create preliminary assessment wireframes from opportunities and targets identified. Evaluate and plan any additional work required and monitor progress ensuring these are driven through to completion.
  • Ensure effective communication of opportunity and exploration targets with relevant stakeholders at all stages to optimise efficiencies with resource geology and mine planning with regards to resource modelling, planning evaluation and production scheduling.
  • Monitor drilling results at a minimum of weekly periods. Identify and assess anomalous results, communicate significance or otherwise in terms of development and drilling and develop appropriate plans in response.
  • Provide technical support to production in mapping, geology modelling, and control of development.
  • Provide input into the weekly mine planning meeting in relation to current and proposed drilling activities.
  • Drive ongoing geological improvement by analysing existing processes and implementing enhancements.
  • Review mine designs from geological perspective –Mine Plan Approval (MPA) sign-off as required.
  • Undertake and prepare reports for any geological events to ensure alignment with overall organisational objectives as requested.
  • Periodically, specific tasks will be allocated by the Geology Manager (Operations)or the Senior Geologists
  • Dependent upon area of responsibility, tasks will be assigned by the Geology Manager (Operations)or Senior Geologists. These will relate to report writing, core logging and project work as assigned.

You will be a highly driven individual who is looking to expand their knowledge.

The specifics:

  • A degree in Geology, preferably with Honours, from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated geological experience, the majority of which must be in gold.
  • Experience in the use of Geological Software (Datamine, Vulcan, or other similar) for wireframing and drill design.
  • More than 4 years underground experience.
  • Proven competency in all aspects of underground geology. Orebody & geology wireframing, mapping, face sampling etc.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to set achievable goals, effectively delegate and mentor is critical.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work within a team and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological and environmental tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.

This is a Kalgoorlie based role, requiring the successful incumbent to reside in the local area.
