      What’s the role on offer?

      As the Senior Planning Engineer, you will report to the Planning Superintendent, with the primary role to lead the Planning Team and ensure the long-term growth and viability of the mining operation. The role will deliver short, medium and long term mine plans, optimise life of mine and enable the business to meet its objectives in terms of production and cost.

      You will also be responsible for:

      Mine Planning

      • Undertake all planning activities incorporating short, medium- and long-term planning requirements.
      • Contribute to the Underground Team to deliver monthly, quarterly and Life-of-Mine (LOM) forecasts and mining schedules.
      • Develop, compare and rank multiple mining strategies with assistance from Senior Mine Geologists and direction of Planning Superintendent.
      • Mining schedules are to be produced in accordance with each strategy.
      • Based on optimised mine strategy, produce and present full LOM plan and schedules on a quarterly basis.
      • Communicate the LOM plan to all relevant personnel to foster awareness of future targets and directions for the mining operation.
      • Assist in developing yearly mining budget in accordance with timing set out by the Company’s Corporate Office.
      • Produce and deliver quarterly mining forecast physicals.
      • Oversee monthly and weekly mining schedules. Ensure forecasts are set out to achieve mining budget.
      • Produce and deliver 13-week mill schedules.
      • Identify opportunities to optimise mining processes and to utilise new technology in the mining processes.
      • Be responsible for safe and efficient completion of all mine planning work.
      • Complete Ore Reserve Estimations in accordance with JORC code definitions.
      • Ensure integrity and security of all data stored on the Vulcan and Deswik mine planning systems.

      Design

      • Undertake mine designs for all geological block models.
      • Oversee and review all mine designs developed within the Planning Department. All designs to be completed in Vulcan/Deswik.
      • Oversee all mine design from initial long-term plans through to final Mine Planning Approvals (MPA).
      • Complete conceptual mining studies on new ore bodies and explore options for alternate mining methods where applicable.

      Financial

      • Update all mining costs quarterly, in line with actuals on a 12-month rolling average.
      • Develop cut-off grades quarterly, based on various gold prices.
      • Complete gold price sensitivities on the LOM plan.
      • Finalise unit cost calculations for estimation purposes and educate all production and technical underground staff.
      • Explore alternate mining methods that may have the potential to reduce operating costs.
      • Explore all options for cost savings in the mine design process and evaluation.
      • Update economic evaluation tools to be used by Mine Planning Team.
      • Identify any opportunities for costs savings during mine design process.

      The specifics:

      • Qualified Mining Engineer.
      • 10 years’ relevant experience in the mining industry.
      • Holding WA First Class Mine Managers Certificate is considered highly desirable.
      • Underground production and planning experience with mining technology and heavy production equipment in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine.
      • Significant experience in all planning processes, from long to short term.
      • Experience and knowledge of various mining methods.
      • Detailed knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
      • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.
      • Competent in the use of mine planning and design software – in particular Vulcan and Deswik packages.
      • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.
      • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
