Our Corporate Technical team is currently seeking a Principal, Mining Underground to join the Perth, Denver or Johannesburg Corporate office to support this mining function.
 

Reporting to the Director – Mining Underground, the role purpose is to provide underground Mine Planning and Operations support for selected assets within the Anglo Gold Ashanti portfolio. This role is a 5:2 roster based at the Perth, Denver or Johannesburg Corporate Office, but will require travel to sites both domestically and internationally within the group portfolio when required. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be based in Perth, Denver or Johannesburg and have the ability to travel and work in Ghana, Guinea, Tanzania, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, DRC, Egypt and the US in diverse and challenging operations.

This position will include hands-on Mine Planning and Scheduling related support and technical expertise across our global entities within AGA.
 

Accountabilities:
 

• Provide expert Mining and Mine Planning support, input and technical advice to all assigned Operations. This includes improving planning and mining practices at the sites as part of Operational Excellence.
• Deliver technical input and support for the mining components of studies and project stage gate reviews as assigned.
• Collaborating closely with the business units, in the development of Integrated plans identifying opportunities, and provide coaching to engineers
• Assist operations globally in Full Asset Potential processes to deliver improvements in cost and operational performance.
• Develop and enhance mining planning systems to deliver best practice in mine planning. Subsequently ensuring the systems are in place and operating effectively with results analysed and reported appropriately.
• Provide support and review to AGA’s Mineral Resource and Ore Reserves processes.
• Investigating business and operational opportunities through mining related technologies and overseeing testing trials as required and provide support for mining software integration.
• Maintaining and supporting appropriate Policy, Guidelines and Standards, and subsequent monitoring and reporting of compliance to those standards

About You:

• Underground mining Operational and technical leadership experience and leading multi-faceted teams.
• A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline
• A minimum of 15 years relevant experience in the mining industry
• Advanced design and scheduling software skills with Deswik/Datamine
• Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain including geology, mining, geotechnical, metallurgy and projects (mining studies to medium and long term mine planning).
• Demonstrated capacity to make sound short-term tactical decisions – quickly assembling and interpreting data to successfully action priorities
• Ability to take a whole-of-business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company’s strategic priorities and demonstrated financial acumen to assess mine planning options or projects.
• Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills with stakeholder engagement and management
• A willingness to work with a diverse team in domestic and international operations comprised of technical and operational members.
• Confidence to provide input and provoke discussion and enthusiastic attitude towards fulfilling key accountabilities.
• Adhering and standing by our core values with a number one focus on safety
• Have valid and existing working rights appropriate to the country of position and the ability to obtain visas to the identified supported international operations.
• General understanding of Mine Health and Safety frameworks and statutory systems affecting Mine Planning and Production Systems is desired.
