Commencing operation in 2013, Tropicana is a premier gold mine that has matured with a 9.4 mtpa processing plant, fed from multiple open-pit and underground ore sources. Continued capital investment includes near-mine and regional exploration, and the construction of solar, wind & battery renewable energy system completed in early 2025.  With +400 koz production forecast for 2026 and beyond, this is an excellent chance to join a modern large-scale gold operation. 

We currently have a great Perth based opportunity for a Database Specialist Geology to join the Technical Services team in the Perth corporate office.
Reporting to the Senior GIS & Database Specialist, the position is responsible for ensuring geological, drilling, sampling, assay and survey data are accurately captured, validated, governed, and made accessible to support exploration programs, resource estimation, mine planning, grade control and business reporting.


This permanent role is based on a Monday – Friday roster.

 

Role Purpose:

 

To manage and maintain the Australian Business Unit Datashed T-SQL database environments supporting exploration, resource development, resource evaluation and grade control activities across AngloGold Ashanti Australian operations.
The position provides database administration, data governance and technical support while driving continuous improvement in data management processes, systems and standards. As such it requires travel to both office and field locations.

Acountabilities:

  • Ensuring databases are maintained, available and performing efficiently. User access, security and database integrity are managed in accordance with AGAA standards
  • Proactively seek out technical and workflow related issues and provide suitable solutions to remedy those issues.
  • Manage Database related software licenses and provide renewal notices to Senior GIS & Database Specialist 
  • Supporting exploration, resource and grade control workflows within a mining environment.
  • Drilling, sampling, assay and geological data are validated, cleansed and loaded accurately.
  • Accurate and timely data extracts, reports and datasets are provided to support exploration resource evaluation and business reporting


About You

To be considered, we would like to see you have:

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Geology, Geoscience, Information Technology, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Database Management or a related discipline is essential.
  • Previous experience in leading and providing service support in data management of geoscientific data.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with geologists, resource geologists, grade control teams and technical stakeholders to deliver high-quality data management outcomes
  • Working knowledge with Microsoft SQL Server, database design, data validation and data governance principles.
  • Experience administering geological databases within the mining or exploration industry
  • Understanding of JORC reporting requirements and geological data governance best practices.
  • A “service oriented” attitude and a work commitment to ensure allocated tasks are completed in a timely manner, particularly with respect to company reporting and presentation requirements.
  • Experience with ETL and automation tools such as FME, Power Automate or Python is desired.
  • Skill in application development including .Net, ARCGIS Suite, QGIS and JavaScript for desktop, web and mobile environments desirable
  • Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance
  • Ongoing permanent work rights in Australia are mandatory
