Mount Perry is a historically significant town nestled in a valley near Mount Perry, the area’s highest mountain. Dominated by the peak of Mount Perry rising 750m above the township, historic buildings and remnants of the town’s copper mining past can still be seen today.

One could describe living in Mount Perry as enjoying the quiet life, away from the hustle and bustle of a city, with its wide-open countryside; it is an affordable oasis. It is conveniently located 100km north-west of the city of Bundaberg. The Sunshine Coast and Queensland capital of Brisbane are only a few hours’ drive away.

Facilities

Mount Perry provides locals with a wide variety of shops and schools, and is perfect for families.

Mount Perry State School allocates students across three classes in multi-age environments offering quality curriculum programs across the eight key learning areas: Kindergarten-Year 2, Year 3-4 and Year 5-6 classes.

Gin Gin is 55km north north-east of Mount Perry, offering both a Primary and High School. Many students who reside in Mount Perry travel to Gin Gin High School using the local school bus service. Bundaberg is another choice for Mount Perry students, as they have both Primary and Secondary School options.

Mount Perry has a small general store, mechanics, post office, service station, and the Mount Perry Health Centre is located on Wallace Street, in the heart of town.

The Mount Perry Showgrounds is where most large community events are held; with other prime event spots being the recreation hall and library.

Activities

With its rolling hills and national parks, Mount Perry and its surrounding area offers a diverse range of outdoor activities to enjoy, such as camping, canoeing, water skiing, four-wheel driving and horse riding.

The Racecourse is located on Gayndah Mount Perry Road, just outside of town, while the Golf Course which boasts 9 holes is located on Scott Street.

The Mount Perry Sports and Recreation Club has a weight room and circuit room. There are also tennis courts, indoor bowls and a Youth Club.

At 192m, the Boolboonda Tunnel is the southern hemisphere’s longest hand-cut, unsupported railway tunnel, and an engineering masterpiece in Mount Perry.

Since Mount Perry’s peak sits 750m above sea level it is a haven for mountain bikers and avid hikers, with an array of different tracks on offer. Scenic hikes take keen bushwalkers to the summit of Mount Perry and nearby Goodnight Scrub National Park offer scenic vistas and wilderness camping via unsealed roads.

Events

There are plenty of events in Mount Perry and the surrounding towns to lock into your calendar all year round.

Mount Perry Show (18 April): Showcasing the best of country living, the Show occurs annually, keeping country traditions alive.

Taste Bundaberg Festival (12-21 June): Weekends of delicious days, inspired by a passionate culinary community and celebrating the connection from farmer, distiller, brewer, grazer, fisherman; to restaurateur and caterer; to you and your plate.

Mount Perry Charity Ball (September): Sponsored by Evolution Mining, the annual event the brings the town together for a night of fun whilst raising money for local charities.

Mount Perry Axemen and Sawyers Annual Woodchop (October): Mount Perry has a rich history of wood chopping and the sport is great for spectators. You can catch the action of Wood Chopping at the annual Wood Chop, held at the Grand Hotel.

Mount Perry Races (November): The popular Races remain a fixture on the calendars of many people in the area.

Mon Repos Turtle Season (November-March): Mon Repos supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland. Every year, you can join a guided tour to watch turtle nesting.
