Gold Fields has been part of the Western Australian community for more than 19 years and is now the third largest gold producer in Australia. It operates four mines in WA’s historic Goldfields region including Agnew, Granny Smith, St Ives and Gruyere.

Operations

Agnew Gold Mine

Job Type: FIFO

Agnew Gold Mine comprises New Holland and Waroonga, both of which are underground operations 23km west of Leinster and employ more than 600 staff and contractors. Each year it produces more than 200,000 ounces of gold.

The majority of Agnew’s 650-strong workforce live permanently in Perth and commute to site on a fly-in, fly-out roster. Agnew offers a suite of services to its workforce including free gym, recreation facilities complete with games, a wet mess and outdoor sports facilities. Agnew also boasts a new accommodation camp. It is just over an hour flight from Perth or a 20-minute drive from Leinster. Employees fly to site on a chartered jet departing Perth Airport’s Terminal 2 twice weekly.

Most graduate and professional roles operate on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster. Other rosters in operation include 4 days on, 3 days off; or 8 days on, 6 days off; 7 nights on, 7 days off, however these are typically for management or production employees.

St Ives Gold Mine

Job Type: Residential, FIFO and BIBO

St Ives Gold Mine is located 80km south of Kalgoorlie and is a combination of underground and open pit. It employs more than 800 staff and contractors and yields about 360,000 ounces each year. The workforce predominately lives in Kalgoorlie or Kambalda however, some senior managers and technical staff fly in from Perth. Bus transportation is offered to all residential employees to and from Kambalda and Kalgoorlie every day. Residential employees say that they enjoy the site’s family friendly rosters and supportive community-feel culture.

The site offers a variety of different rosters dependent on each department. For example, 5 days on, 5 nights on and 5 days off for operational employees; or 9 days on, 5 days off; or 8 days on, 6 days off; or even 5 days on and 2 days off for a variety of professional and operational support employees.

Granny Smith Gold Mine

Job Type: FIFO

The site comprises an underground mine with a 10-year mine life and is located 21km south of Laverton and 740km north-east of Perth. Travel to the site takes just over an hour from Perth via private charter. The Granny Smith Village offers a variety of facilities including a gym, group exercise classes including CrossFit, yoga, boxing, mixed netball, a purpose-built music room, 4G Telstra and WIFI, Foxtel and a tavern. A dedicated area for relaxation and socialising called the Gold Lounge has been established where residents can watch a movie or catch up with others in a quiet and comfortable setting. An active Social Club organises events throughout the year, including family visits at Christmas.

Most roles at the operation work 8 days on, 6 days off roster (days only) or 8 days on, 6 days off, then 7 nights on, 7 days off (days/nights). Granny Smith prides itself in being a welcoming and community-oriented workplace and village.

Gruyere Gold Mine

Job Type: FIFO

Gruyere is a 50/50 joint venture with Gold Road Resources and is located on the South Dorothy Hills Trend, 25km north-east of the Yamarna Belt discovery, Central Bore. Gruyere has an open pit with a 13-year mine life. The flight to Gruyere from Perth is 90 minutes, and employees stay in the Gruyere Village which boasts high speed WIFI, extensive sporting facilities such as a driving range, a well-equipped gym, basketball and soccer courts and a tavern.

These roles are permanent and offered on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster and are fly-in, fly-out from Perth. Benefits offered to permanent employees include a private health insurance allowance and quarterly bonuses.

Employment Programs

Apprenticeships

Gold Fields offers industry-leading apprenticeship training at each of its sites throughout the year. Their highly regarded Apprenticeship Program includes mentoring and skills-development advice from some of the most experienced and knowledgeable leaders in the mining industry.

St Ives recruit annually for apprentices with targeted recruitment of residents from the Kambalda and Kalgoorlie area. St Ives and Granny Smith have Trainee Programs for Open Pit and Underground Operators, Process Technicians and Administrators.

Graduates

Focusing on highly sought-after, industry-based skills-development, the Gold Fields Graduate Program provides an excellent start to a career in mining. Based on Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy best practice, the program offers tailored mentoring, technical development, open-pit or underground experience and role specific training to help with your success. Gold Fields run an annual graduate and vacation student intake at the end of quarter one each year for the following year. The Program is open to graduates in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology and Metallurgy.

Leadership Development

The various formal Leadership Development Programs at Gold Fields support potential supervisors up to senior management. The Programs are delivered by industry leading institutions and are available to all Gold Fields employees. The delivery of these Programs, aligned to the Gold Fields global leadership competencies, extends over a 12-month period and is facilitated across three study schools.

Various Bonded Scholarships are available each year through Gold Fields.

Vacation Work
