After an impressive debut in 2013, the Tropicana gold mine has consistently achieved or beaten performance targets. Owned by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd (70% and manager) and Independence Group NL (30%), this large-scale, modern open pit gold operation has been one of the most significant Australian gold discoveries of the last decade.

Along with continued investment and focus on our open pit mining, Tropicana has also recently commenced underground operations at Boston Shaker.

We are now seeking an experienced Reliability Technician to join our Maintenance team at Tropicana Gold Mine.

Accountable to the Senior Reliability Engineer, this role is responsible for leading the reliability approach to fixed plant asset maintenance and investigating plant failures in order to implement effective solutions.  This role is based at Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8:6 roster flying from either Kalgoorlie or Perth.

This role would suit either an experienced tradesperson or engineer with experience in condition monitoring and failure analysis.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring including vibration and thermography analysis of all fixed plant equipment, analyse results provided by vendors or from site analysis and recommend and manage changes, escalating as required
  • Conduct non-destructive inspections of components using dye-penetrant, magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing equipment
  • Respond to all critical and reoccurring issues, including leaks, component failures and breakdowns and ensure they are investigated thoroughly so that the root cause can be identified
  • Undertake investigations of plant failures, defects and incidents providing written reports of investigations to peers and management
  • Manage and complete outcomes from investigations
  • Assist in the development of maintenance strategies to assist in defect elimination
  • Actively utilise SAP to ensure maintenance work orders and defects are accurately recorded and information is correct and up-to-date with the appropriate urgency rating
  • Continuously strive to improve, by searching and listening to new ways of performing jobs and new technology
  • Provide ad hoc training on failure analysis, condition monitoring and defect elimination to Technicians: Mechanical Maintenance, Technicians: Electrical Maintenance and Technicians: Processing Plant
  • Identify, plan schedule and manage small reliability projects

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade or degree qualified engineer
  • Understanding of failure analysis
  • Background in condition monitoring
  • Proven experience in the early detection of plant defects and Root Cause Analysis investigation of plant failures
  • The development and implementation of effective solutions to minimise plant failures
  • Wide range of experience across fixed plant including ball mills, crushers, conveyors and pumps
  • Report writing skills
  • Experience using SAP
  • Current WA Drivers Licence
  • A National Police Clearance
  • Existing and ongoing Permanent work rights in Australia (Mandatory)
