The Opportunity

Located 740km northeast of Perth and 20km from Laverton, Granny Smith is a well-established underground gold operation, owner-operated by Gold Fields since 2013. Producing over 250,000 ounces per annum, the site has operated for more than 30 years and boasts a mine life exceeding 10 years.

 

In this pivotal role, you will lead and manage the mining maintenance teams responsible for Granny Smith’s mobile fleet and associated mining fixed plant infrastructure. You will drive equipment reliability and performance, ensuring key targets are achieved within budget, while fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

 

This position is offered on a FIFO basis from Perth, with flexibility required to work either an 8/6 or 8/6 4/3 roster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the mining maintenance department to deliver safe and reliable outcomes
  • Ensure equipment performance targets are achieved across availability, reliability, and cost
  • Oversee maintenance of the mobile fleet and associated mining fixed plant infrastructure
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies, plans and schedules aligned to operational requirements
  • Monitor and manage operational and capital maintenance budgets
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, safety and environmental requirements
  • Provide technical expertise across equipment selection, rebuild strategies and asset optimisation
  • Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring, and training initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders

 

About You

  • Trade qualification in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline
  • Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor (desirable)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within mining maintenance, ideally underground
  • Proven ability to lead, influence and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong alignment with Gold Fields’ core values: Safety, Respect, Collaboration and Responsibility
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Sound, timely decision making in fast-paced operational environments
  • In-depth knowledge of asset management, maintenance planning and reliability engineering principles
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets and driving cost performance
  • Practical experience with underground mobile equipment and fixed plant
  • Exposure to SAP systems highly regarded
  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite
