Northern Star Resources have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer at our world-class Kalgoorlie Operations, on a 5:2 residential roster.

What’s the role on offer?

Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will lead Geotechnical strategy and development of site geotechnical personnel and capabilities in a dynamic, complex and progressive work environment. You will provide geotechnical technical support, assistance and oversight to Northern Stars mining operations across the Kalgoorlie region.

This is a challenging and exciting role which allows you to utilise your previous Geotechnical skills and experience.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Providing geotechnical leadership across the Kalgoorlie region.
  • Provide support to senior management on geotechnical aspects.
  • Implement programmes and projects to improve and maximise the value of operations on a long term and strategic basis.
  • Improve the standard of site geotechnical support and assist sites to identify and rectify shortfalls.
  • Manage geotechnical requirements for early stage and development projects.
  • Provide internal geotechnical capacity for business development opportunities.

Are you our next Principal Geotechnical Engineer?

You’ll be a highly motivated  individual who is looking to implement their previous experiences to lead and develop the Geotechnical Team in Kalgoorlie.

You will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

The specifics:

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the mining industry.
  • Sound practical application of geotechnical knowledge.
  • Clear understanding of regulatory requirements for open cut and underground mines.
  • Working knowledge of various mining methods, both surface and underground (e.g. longhole open stoping, air leg stoping, jumbo stoping and underground backfill systems.
  • Exposure to mine auditing and assessment techniques.
  • Sound analytical skills.
  • Computer literacy – Mine Design Software, Numerical Modelling Software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communication effectively across all levels.
  • Strong report writing skills.
