What’s the role on offer?

As the Underground Manager, you will be responsible for the safe operation of the Underground Mining Operation.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Developing and managing the underground mine and associated activities to safely meet the Company’s strategic goals.
  • Directly control, manage, and supervise the operational team, including external mining contractors and/or Northern Star Mining Services division (NSMS).
  • Generate operating plans and budgets that align with the Company’s operating requirements and maximise, as practicable, the underground mine’s positive contribution to the Operation.
  • Communicate with mine personnel on a regular basis, keeping them informed on the status, direction and targets of the Operation.
  • Maintain open and positive communication with other parts of the Mining Operation.
  • Develop personnel directly reporting to this position through coaching, training and regular appraisals.
  • Show strong leadership through well-developed communication skills including managing for performance and the ability to communicate mining operations information to management and site visitors.
  • Ensure all risks associated with mining are identified and addressed.
  • Analyse and report on mining operational performance to identify any early interventions required to maintain performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement to lift mine performance.

You will be a highly motivated individual with excellent leadership, safety and technical skills, looking to lead a mining team in the operation of an extensive and complex underground mine to meet and exceed the Company’s goals.

The specifics:

  • WA Underground First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency.
  • Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent from a recognise tertiary institution.
  • Demonstrable experience in underground mine management at minimum Deputy or Alternate level.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills.
  • High level planning skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports and good analytical skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & regulations.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Driver’s Licence.
