Strategic Category Lead

About the Role

Partnering closely with diverse stakeholders, you’ll understand their needs and spend, perform supply market analysis, shape and execute category strategies and manage suppliers.  You will drive value for money, meet business needs and align with key legislative requirements.

Simply, you ensure value driven outcomes by collaboratively engaging with operations.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and own the category strategy aligned to business goals and customer demand.
• Understand supply market trends, key stakeholder needs, and spend data to forecast demand and specifications
• Develop and execute sourcing strategies (e.g., single vs multi-sourcing, global vs local).
• Leading high-stakes sourcing and negotiations, securing long-term agreements that strengthen our commercial position. 
• Build strong supplier relationships and partnerships to drive innovation and cost efficiency.
• Ensure ethical sourcing, sustainability, and compliance with company policies.
• Contract manage, continuously improve performance and ensuring any risks / issues are firmly under control. 
• Embedding value for money at the core of every decision while upholding strong governance and accountability. 
• Staying ahead of the curve with forward-looking insights on markets, demand trends, and regulatory shifts. 
• Influencing key stakeholders and acting as their “go to advisor” on procurement strategy and commercial outcomes. 
• Streamline and simplify processes by championing smarter, faster, more innovative ways of working across procurement and purchasing.

About You

You are not just a procurement expert; you’re a strategic leader who embraces challenge and drives meaningful change and outcomes. You thrive in complex environments and bring a collaborative approach to building relationships and delivering results.

Your experience includes collaboration with stakeholders, leading strategic sourcing and contract management, negotiating high-value agreements, and embedding sustainability principles into procurement strategies.

You combine strong commercial acumen with advanced analytical skills, and a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement.  Experience in mining and/or heavy industry experience would be valued.
