Northern Star Resources have a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for an Underground Ventilation Technician to join the Mining – Underground team at the Mt Charlotte operations, residentially based in Kalgoorlie – the Heart of the Goldfields.

Mount Charlotte is a historic mine that has been backed with significant investment in recent years, resulting in a long-term exciting future for the growing team of mining specialists leading, operating and maintaining the mine.

The Ventilation Technician reports to the Senior Planning Engineer and their primary role is to collaborate with the Ventilation Engineer by providing support to ensure all ventilation requirements are complied with.

Here’s what awaits you:

  • Complete secondary ventilation surveys of all active headings, at intervals not exceeding one month.
  • Ensure secondary surveys include velocities, cross sectional areas, quantity, dry bulb and wet bulb temperatures and contaminant levels.
  • Issue plans to rectify any deficiency found as soon as practicable and before the end of the working shift, and verification of improvements upon completion.
  • Complete an approved secondary ventilation report before the end of each calendar month outlining any deficiencies and the requirements to fix them.
  • Complete Primary ventilation surveys at no greater than 3 monthly intervals, or whenever there is a substantial change to the primary ventilation circuit and volume flows, documented in a report for analysis and comment to a high standard with volume balance correct.
  • Primary ventilation stations to be established and maintained.
  • Volume, pressure and electrical input readings to be taken on all primary fans and documented in the primary ventilation report.
  • Plans to be issued for installation, removal or movement of ventilation ducting, auxiliary fans, regulators or other controls as per requirements of the Ventilation Engineer. Settings for these devices to be supplied for activities performed in each area.
  • Operating, calibrating and maintenance of all equipment required to complete the requirements of this role.
  • Updating and maintaining ventilation equipment and control devices registers.
  • Generate Emergency Level Plans with updated primary flows at intervals not exceeding 3 months, in conjunction with completed primary surveys.
  • Generate secondary ventilation plans showing the location of secondary fans, ducting and flow control devices following approval of mine level plans.
  • Inspect, collect and report of emissions testing performed by the contractor on site.
  • Enter records into the logbook as required under the WHS 2022.
  • Complete any works associated with improvement of ventilation practices at the mine.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

Experience: Mining Engineering background (studying/postgrad) or work history within an operating mine. Computer literacy Microsoft Office. Training for CAD based mining software will be provided. Good communication skills, written & verbal. Ability to work unsupervised as required. Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices. Demonstration of team and leadership skills.

Qualifications: St Johns Senior First Aid certificate (desirable). Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
