Westonia, WA

Overview

Westonia is named after Alfred Weston, a sandalwood cutter who discovered gold in the area in 1910. Since then, Westonia has experienced the highs and lows of gold mining, with a peak population of around 2,000 in 1917. Today, the Westonia community relies on broad acre agriculture and mining to sustain it.

Westonia is located 312km east of Perth in Western Australia, where the Wheatbelt region meets the Goldfields. The Edna May Gold Mine has opened and closed over the years, but is now operated by Ramelius Resources, with the current phase pouring gold since 2010 and focusing on resource development across the region.
