Overview

Kambalda is an inclusive and safe town, in which you can call upon your neighbour if you ever need a hand. The town consists mostly of people employed in neighbouring mines, including St Ives Gold Mine, and is a great place for raising young families, with many services and support options available.

Kambalda has a terrific community vibe, with many residents making lifelong friends through work or school. Located 57km south of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda is at the heart of the Western Australian Goldfields region.

Facilities

Kambalda has a wide variety of facilities to help you to settle into the town.

The Kambalda Community Recreation Facility is located on Barnes Drive and provides two indoor courts (lined for basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton), three outdoor courts (lined for basketball and netball) and gym facilities. Community resources such as public computers are available, along with One Tree Day Care and activity rooms.

Built in the late 1960s with no expenses spared by the Swan Brewery, officially opening in the early 1970s, the Kambalda Hotel still stands today. The bar and restaurant provide an ideal meeting place for both residents and visitors alike.

Kambalda West District High School is a Level Five District High School catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 10.

Kambalda East Primary School has an inclusive atmosphere with a strong focus on education programs that target the developmental needs of all students, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Kambalda West Playgroup offers a comfortable play-friendly space for open play, creativity and socialising, as well as a safe space for Parents, Guardians and Carers alike.

The Kambalda Pool is currently under construction and will open to the public as the new Kambalda Aquatic Facility later in 2020.

Other facilities include St John’s Medical Centre, Woolworths, Good News Newsagency, restaurants, a local post office and pharmacy, with National broadband also available.

Activities

Kambalda has several outdoor activities on offer, from hikes to sports clubs and an 18-hole par 72 golf course spanning 1,365km!

Red Hill Lookout and Walking Trail has stunning views from atop Red Hill over the Lake Lefroy Salt Lake and mining operations. The 1.4km walking track is also breath-taking. For a longer walk, visit the Nullarbor Links Golf Course, where each hole is located in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway, from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to Ceduna in South Australia.

The Kambalda Football Club has teams for U18s, women, reserves and seniors. Or join the Sea Eagle Swimming Club, which operates in the summer months and welcomes new members to their club house, situated next to the 50m pool.

Events

There’s a wide range of opportunities for Kambalda residents to connect, and with events held throughout the year, there’s plenty to see and do.

Lake Lefroy Annual Land Sailing Regatta (September): Considered by land yacht sailors to be one of the best places in the world, each year sailors provide spectators with an amazing race.

Coolgardie Day (September): A great family day out with a parade, food and local stalls, rides and entertainment for the whole family.

Lighting of the Christmas Tree (December): The annual festival event is filled with entertainment, food and fun; the culminates with a special visit from Santa and a fireworks display.

Santa Street Visits (December): The day after Lighting of the Christmas Tree, Santa is driven through the streets by the local volunteer fire brigade and he throws lollies to passers-by.
